Quilting Fun...

I have been collecting fabric for as long as I can remember. This double quilt that I am starting has a mixture of old and new. Some fabric remnants that I had printed at University, some old clothing that I used to wear out clubbing in the 90's-couldn't part with the Red or Dead trousers I used to wear. I cut them up and added them to the quilt. An old 90's velour T shirt that I used to wear clubbing had the logo 'run for your life' emblazoned accross the front-I remember having my photo in Mixmag back in the day-Royal highland Centre Dance Festival-Ingliston. Wow, that's taking me back: Carl Cox, Pete Tong and Nick Warren...what a line up-does anyone remember the 'Braveheart tune?'. I will try to get that photo of the T shirt and me looking slightly worse for wear. Got me feeling nostalgic now...anyway lots of printed memories on this quilt...must get in finished...
Can anyone spot the Liberty prints? Liberty rules! There is map printed fabric and numbers that are too cool-must take a better shot of these to share with you all! Still gotta complete the two border fabrics which I will do in slightly more muted fabrics as this is a mish-mash of happy, crazy colour...not to everyone's taste I am sure! There is also some crazy tie-dye trousers of my mum's. Not sure when she wore these, but they were like harem pants-worn to death, they gotta be for the 80's. Fabric/prints are so nostalgic. I am planning to cup up lost's more smaller squares to patchwork for cushion covers. Watch this space for more ideas. Frustrated as do not have the time to get this finished....soon!
Meanwhile I am also looking at making cushion covers to reduce the bulk of fabric samples, buttons and swatches that I have in my stash...

Some more please...

This is what I see when walking my son to school-it brightens up even the most hideous January mornings.
I have so much creativity busting to get out but have got a serious case of designers block!!
Other fascinations, so watch this space: The Dada era-Hannah Hoch, Peter Kennard etc.. I love the controversy of this time! Obsessed with Lee Bowery

The club kids of New York, Michael Alig and James St James! What a crazy story!
I am kinda seeing some resemblance with Pam Hogg, doesn't she bloody rock!!
I know we are in an era which is inspiring an apocalyptic/sombre/recession vibe but please can we have some colour-is colour still cool, in, now? I hope so!

Pam Hogg Rules...as does Holly Fulton...

and Louise Gray...

Loving these designers. Good on you girls for giving us some colour-texture and ultimately FUN, which I think is missing in Fashion right now in a big way! Come on guys....lets not take ourselves too seriously!

A sneaky peek at all my fabulous fascinations...

Where do I begin? Ok, let me share with you some inspirations of mine...

American artist James Marshall, better known as 'Dalek'. Graffiti is a major inspiration for me and Dalek's work represents everything colourful and wonderful in a graffiti stylistic fashion!
